Dorsu
A great example of a transparent Social and Ethical Enterprise
This Social Enterprise located in Kampot, South Cambodia, began when one of the funders, Hanna Guy, wanted to develop a sustainable business to fund the Chumknel Language School and seven years later they created a workshop to produce clothes that are affordable and accesible.
Dorsu does not produce clothes depending on seasonal trends and demands of mass-consumption, these clothes are made for conscious people that are looking for quality and fair cost that can support this business model. What I find interesting about this company is that they are very commited to help the local community by building a link between communities and companies, creating a win win situation for both of them.
They implemented policies based on a combination of fair trade and progressive employment policies, giving their workers permanent contracts, realistic work hours, decent breaks, higher rates during overtime, safety training, insurance, with all these principles and policies the workers are happy to arrive to the workshop, making them feel they are art of the team and welcome to contribute with new ideas.
Dorsu designs clothes to create as little waste as possible, they purchase fabric remnants leftover from garmen factories, they have a real commitment with the environment having a free plastic workshop and using chemical free products trying to be the less harmful possible. Creating a new product perspective, enough awareness for the society.
